EDITORIAL DUTIES

He is the Associate Editor of three International Journals (Computational Mechanics, Soil Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering, Applied Mechanics Reviews) and an Editorial Board Member of 8 other International Journals (Int. J. Num. Meth. Engng, European J. Mech. A/Solids, Engng Anal. Bound. Elem., etc). He is also the Co-Editor of the Int. Book Series on “Advances in Earthquake Engng” of the WIT Press.

MEMBERSHIP

  • Fellow of the ASCE. Member of the Electronic Computation Committee of ASCE (1980-1988).
  • Vice-President of the Int. Assoc. Bound. Elem. Meth. (1994-1996).
  • Member of the IACM General Council from its founding until 2002.
  • Founder of the Greek Association of Computational Mechanics (GRACM) - member of IACM in 1991 and First President from 1991 to 1996.
  • Secretary General of the Hellenic (Greek) Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics – Member of IUTAM (1988-2003).
  • President of the Greek Metal Structures Research Society (2000-2003).
  • Member of the Congress Committee of IUTAM (2002-2006).


TEACHING AND RESEARCH ACTIVITIES

  • He maintains research in Computational Mechanics, especially in the area of Boundary Element Methods (BEM), as applied to structural dynamics and earthquake engineering. He has co-authored the first text on BEM as applied to elastodynamics (1988), edited the first handbook on BEM (1987) and edited or co-edited 3 more books on BEM (1989, 1991, 2002). In addition he has co-edited a handbook on Earthquake Engineering and 8 more books. His publication record includes over 130 articles in refereed journals and 140 articles in conference proceedings.
  • Conference Organizer: Chairman or Co-Chairman of the Organizing Committee of 7 International and 3 National Conferences.
  • Student Supervision: He has supervised 25 M.S. theses and 14 Ph.D. theses (7 of his former Ph.D. students hold faculty positions in Greek Universities).
  • Teaching experience: He has taught over 30 different courses in Applied Mechanics and Structural Engineering at the undergraduate and graduate level.
