EU students may enter Italy using a valid ID or passport and they can stay for the entire duration of the semester/s they have to attend in Pavia as long as the semester/s in Pavia last. Please note that, for stays longer than 3 months, students need to register at the municipality of the place where they live (Pavia or neighboring cities).
Non-EU students, in order to study in Italy, need to request an entry visa for study purposes (study-POSTGRADUATE) at the Italian Embassy or Consulate of their home country. We recommend to submit the request and the related documents well in advance, at least 3 months before the beginning of the Master Programme. More information about Italian visa application procedure and required documents can be found here
Within 8 working days from their arrival in Italy, students must apply for the Italian permit of stay by submitting the application form enclosed in a special kit available at any Post Office. The MEEES Secretariat will provide students with all useful information about this procedure and will help them scheduling an appointment at an assistance agency, which provides free assistance to foreign people in filling out of the above-mentioned form.
For more details about the Italian permit of stay procedure, please see the IUSS student guidebook.
