Probabilistic bases for the design and evaluation of structural safety and reliability. Variability in material properties, random occupancy, probabilistic seismic hazard analysis and earthquake loading. Structural system reliability. Quantitative risk evaluation, systematic assessment and analysis of uncertainties, optimum design accounting for uncertainty and failure consequences. First order (FORM) and second order (SORM) reliability methods. Probabilistically based code specifications and LRFD methods. Applications include: statistical evaluation of loads; seismic hazard mapping; earthquake insurance; reliability of lifeline networks under seismic hazard; seismic vulnerability assessment and estimation of potential seismic damage; probabilistic site characterization; stochastic modeling in time and space, etc.
