Plate Tectonics Theory, Faults and fault movements,  Magnitude of earthquakes, Intensity scaling of earthquakes,  Characteristics of earthquake ground motions.

2. RESPONSE OF SIMPLE STRUCTURES TO EARTHQUAKE GROUND MOTIONS
Seismic response of linear elastic single degree of freedom (SDOF) systems, Seismic response of inelastic SDOF systems,
Linear elastic response spectra, Inelastic response spectra.

3. RESPONSE OF BUILDING STRUCTURES TO EARTHQUAKE GROUND MOTIONS
Undamped free vibration (Eigenvalue analysis), Forced vibration under earthquake excitation (mode superposition), Equivalent static modal forces.

4. SEISMIC ANALYSIS PROCEDURES IN THE TURKISH EARTHQUAKE CODE
Design ground motions and design spectrum: Reduction of elastic forces, Mode superposition procedure, Equivalent static lateral load procedure, Response modification factors.

5. SEISMIC DESIGN PRINCPLES FOR RC STRUCTURES
Capacity design principles in RC structures, Columns, Beams, Shear walls, Plastic hinge hierarchy in frames.
